Richard Storms: Common
We are delighted to announce Common, a solo exhibition of paintings and works on paper by Toronto-based artist Richard Storms. Featuring seabirds and birds, domestic scenes and abstract representations, Common is an examination of both our natural and built environment.
The subtly coloured ‘common species’, our city’s avian co-habitants, are part of the urban fabric who mostly go unnoticed because of their ubiquity and are often ignored as nuisance. The same could also be said of the new developments and architectural expressions currently contributing to the city’s spectacular growth, which are often derided for their inconvenience, aesthetic similarity and densities. Continuing to be inspired by the many experiences, domestic, social, urban and natural that he encounters daily, Storms notes that a closer inspection of these ‘common’ entities proves worthwhile.
